During COVID-19 we’ve distributed more than 7,400 free fresh food parcels to people in need
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we’ve been packing and distributing free food parcels made up of fresh produce and bread to locals in need.
Following the suspension of our free community lunches due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Open Table teamed up with our friends at Cultivating Community and Yarra Libraries to focus our efforts on food relief for the many vulnerable households across the city's north. We packed and distributed 7,400 free fresh food parcels, made up of fresh ingredients for recipients to cook the meals they enjoy at home.
We’ve also donated an 4 tonnes of surplus produce to community meal programs at Reynard Street Neighbourhood House and the Muslim Womens Council of Victoria.
In the process we’ve prevented 26 tonnes of surplus food from ending up in landfill, through our food donation partners Foodbank, OzHarvest and Secondbite as well as local businesses including The Vegetable Connection and Natural Tucker Bakery
We've been really humbled by all the community support for this work. We couldn't have done it without the support of our partners made up of neighbourhood houses, community organisations, volunteer groups and local businesses.
